Diabetes is a condition where the amount of glucose in your blood is too high because the body cannot use it properly.This is because your pancreas doesn’t produce any insulin, or not enough insulin, to help glucose enter your body’s cells- or the insulin that is produced does not work properly (known as insulin resistance).
Causes of Diabetes
People with diabetes have high blood glucose, also called high blood sugar or hyperglycemia.Diabetes develops when the body doesn’t make enough insulin or is not able to use insulin effectively,or both. Insulin is a hormone made by beta cells in the pancreas.
Symptoms of Diabetes
- Going to the toilet a lot, especially at night
- Being really thirsty
- Feeling more tired than usual
- Losing weight
- Genital itching or thrush
- Cuts and wounds take longer to heal
- Blurred vision.
- The body does not produce insulin. The body breaks down the sugars and starches you eat into a simple sugar called glucose,which it uses for energy.
- This most common form of diabetes is called non-insulin diabetes. This is also called “ adult onset” diabetes, since it typically develops after age 35. However, a growing number of younger people are now developing non-insulin diabetes.
